Box office collection: Marathi film 'Sairat' beats 'Kapoor and Sons' and 'Neerja' lifetime record

Marathi film "Sairat" continues its phenomenal box office run in India. The love story, which has completed four weeks run, has shattered the records of Bollywood films "Kapoor and Sons" and "Neerja" in India.
"Sairat," directed by Nagraj Manjule, was released in limited screens compared to Sidharth Malhotra-Fawad Khan starrer "Kapoor and Sons" and Sonam Kapoor's "Neerja," which were released across India in several screens . But the limited screen count did not stop "Sairat" to earn more than Rs. 75 crore in its 31-day run. "Sairat" is now the fifth highest grosser of 2016 and the list includes Hollywood film "The Jungle Book."
The Rinku Rajguru and Akash Thosar starrer earned Rs. 75 crore in four weeks and adding the fifth-weekend earnings, the collection would go up to more than Rs. 76 crore. However, the official figures are not out yet.
The film has surpassed the lifetime figures of "Kapoor and Sons" (Rs. 73.29  crore) and "Neerja" (Rs. 75.61 crore). "Sairat" would have also shattered the collection of Tiger Shroff and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer "Baaghi," but we will have to wait for the official figures to compare the collections of both the films.
Meanwhile, the film is creating records at the overseas box office as well. "Sairat" has become first Marathi film to get a theatrical release at the UAE-GCC box office, where it opened to housefull status.
"Sairat," directed by Manjule, is a love saga set in the backdrop of caste discrimination. The film, which features Rinku and Akash in the lead roles, has been received well by all and is setting new benchmarks at the box office for all the new releases.

Salman Khan dumps Mika Singh, brings Badshah on board for 'Sultan' song?

After Arijit Singh, now Salman Khan has reportedly dumped Mika Singh for a song of his upcoming film "Sultan." The recent buzz is that the superstar didn't like Mika's version of the song, thus he asked Badshah to come on board for the same.
It looks like Mika's luck is not with him nowadays. After Colors showed him the exit door from "Comedy Nights Live," Salman did the same with the singer and roped in his rival Badshah, Deccan Chronicle reported. It is said that Mika was the original singer of the track featured in the trailer, but Salman didn't like it.
"Mika and Salman have known each other for years now. It's not the first time that this has happened with Mika. Even during 'Kick,' Mika had sung 'Jumme Ki Raat Hai' and Salman had later re-recorded the song in his own voice. However, this time Salman has re-recorded the song with Mika's rival Badshah," a source told the leading daily.
Unlike Arijit, who posted a long apology letter to Salman on Facebook, Mika has remained mum on this issue. Salman has not only replaced Mika but it has also been reported that Rahat Fateh Ali Khan will lend his voice for the song, which was sung by Arijit originally.
Meanwhile, fans are curious to watch "Sultan" after seeing the trailer. The Ali Abbas Zafar directorial features Salman and Anushka Sharma as wrestlers Sultan Ali Khan and Aarfa. The duo will be seen romancing as well as wrestling with each other in the flick.
Scheduled to be released on Eid, the sports drama has been filmed in Uttar Pradesh, New Delhi and Mumbai. Earlier, Shah Rukh Khan's "Raees" was supposed to hit the screens along with "Sultan," but the makers of the SRK-starrer chose to avoid the clash at box office. Thus, the release date of "Raees" has been shifted to next year.

Irrfan Khan's 'Madaari' and Amitabh Bachchan's 'Te3n' will not clash at box office

Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan's "Te3n" will not clash with Irrfan Khan's "Madaari." The makers of "Madaari" avoided clashing with Big B's film just like how Shah Rukh Khan's "Raees" evaded Salman Khan's "Sultan."
Both the films were scheduled to be released on June 10, but now Irrfan-starrer will hit the screens on July 15. "#Madaari will now release on 15 July 2016, instead of the earlier announced date 10 June 2016. Nishikant Kamat directs the film, [sic]" trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
Nishikant and Irrfan also opened up about the shifting of the release date. "As the director of this film, I want complete justice to be done to the subject of the movie. Hence I am convinced with the producer's decision of postponing the release date," IANS quoted Nishikant as saying.
Irrfan, who has turned producer with the film, concurred with the decision: "I am in agreement with the decision of the makers to change the release date of Madaari". After "Piku" and "Talvar," Irrfan is set to entertain viewers with another brilliant performance in this upcoming film, which is based on a true story.
"Madaari" is based on a real-life incident which led to loss of lives and numerous injuries. The film deals with an event that took place at the under-construction overhead Metro bridge on the Andheri-Kurla Road in suburban Marol. Also featuring Jimmy Shergill in a pivotal role, the film explores a father-son relationship.
The film's trailer was released recently and has garnered immense appreciation from all quarters. On the other hand, the trailer of Amitabh-starrer "Te3n" has also impressed the audience. Sujoy Ghosh's film stars Big B, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Vidya Balan.

When Karishma Tanna's ex-boyfriend Upen Patel left an event mid-way

Upen Patel is known for his fitness and the actor has a very strict daily routine. He apparently leads a well-disciplined lifestyle and is very particular about his sleep timings.
Upen, who was recently in news for his break-up with Karishma Tanna, does not let anything affect his daily practice. It has been learnt that the actor-cum-model left an event half-way as it did not start on time and that would have affected his sleep timings.
"Upen was recently invited at a trial of a film held in the western suburbs. Onlookers were surprised to see the stylish actor arriving at the venue dot on time. After greeting the movie producers and exchanging pleasantries, the suave actor even posed happily for the shutterbugs.
"On realizing about the delay, he decided to make an early exit. On his way out, someone asked him where he was going and pat came the reply. 'To sleep. By the time this starts it will be past my bed time,' which was totally true. The show started very late, as most of the invitees turned up post 10," a source close to the actor said in a statement.
Upen had earlier announced his break-up with Karishna with a Twitter post. "Me and Karishma have both agreed to part ways. Thank you for all your love [sic]," Upen had tweeted earlier. Another tweet had read: "2 much has come 2light & shown its true colours. love is never easy and when a certain foundation is broken it's impossible 2move forward [sic]." He later deleted the tweets.

Website containing Sunny Leone's nude photos to be taken down?

Sunny Leone is controversy's favourite child. After being in the news for allegedly slapping a journalist, the actress is now making headlines courtesy nude photos of her on a website.
According to an Absolute News India report, an activist from the Hindu Jana Jagruti Samiti has lodged a complaint with Thane Police Commissioner Parambir Singh demanding that the website be shut down. It has been learnt that the officials had earlier requested the company to bring down the portal, but they are yet to respond.
This isn't new or even shocking given how the actress has often been pulled up for once being a part of the adult entertainment industry. For instance, journalist Bhupendra Chaubey in an interview had osed her questions that were considered way out of the line, and not very tasteful.
Some of the questions asked were: "How many people think of growing up to become a porn star?," "Bobby Khan, the director of his film 'Ek Paheli Leela,' said a lot of big stars didn't want to work with you," and "So you would want to work with Aamir Khan but Aamir wouldn't work with you. How does that reflect on you then?"
She kept her calm through the interview and was poised. Working with Shah Rukh Khan in "Raees" and hobnobbing with Aamir and his family — Sunny and husband Daniel Weber were invited to an intimate dinner party — are being seen as fitting answers to the questions.
On the work front, Sunny's "One Night Stand" opened in theatres on May 6. Her upcoming films are "Beiimaan Love" and "Tina & Lolo."

Yo Yo Honey Singh becomes 'Most Stylish Singer' of Bollywood [VIDEO]

Yo Yo Honey Singh has been honoured with the "Most Stylish Singer" award at the recently-held HT most stylist award 2016 ceremony. The rapper is known for his peppy songs and his unique fashion sense.
Honey Singh is mostly liked by the youth and he is certainly one of the most popular Bollywood singers at present. After receiving the "Most Stylish Singer" award, he thanked the jury and his fans. He especially thanked his younger sister, calling her the best critic of his fashion and style.
Honey also did an impromptu performance as he rapped a few lines from the song "High Heels," incorporating the organiser's name in the song. Honey Singh was in the news recently due to one of his hit songs but for the wrong reasons.
During his appearance in "The Kapil Sharma Show," Honey had said that he had composed the song "Dheere Dheere" when he was suffering from bipolar disorder and his mother had helped him write the lyrics of the track. But the original song was composed long back by Nadeem-Shravan in the year 1990.
Honey's statement had irked the veteran composer, Nadeem Saif, who was later quoted as saying that he might be compelled to sue Honey for claiming the rights of the song. "I would like you to ask Honey Singh his date of birth, because I feel he must be in his nappies when I composed this song. I am surprised at the audacity of baby Yo Yo to make such baseless claim on national television," Nadeem had told SKJ Bollywood News earlier.
"I have refrained from suing these amateurs only because this song was dedicated to our beloved Gulshanji. But if push comes to shove, I think I may have to take this to the legal system," he had added. Check the video of Honey Singh receiving the award below:

'Veerappan' movie review roundup: Here is what critics have to say about Sandeep-starrer

Bollywood film critics gave Ram Gopal Varma's film "Veerappan" the thumbs up. "Veerappan," which is receiving positive reviews, is a biographical film based on the life of the notorious bandit Veerappan.
Praising the film, critics said that "Veerappan" is director Varma's best work recently. The film, which is based on Varma's Kannada docudrama "Killing Veerappan," features Sandeep Bharadwaj in the titular role, Usha Jadhav as Veerappan's wife Muthulakshmi and Sachiin J Joshi as Police Officer (Spy) based on N. K. Senthamarai Kannan.
Not only the director, the lead actors have also garnered praises from the film critics. Sandeep shines as Veerappan, but Usha and Sachiin cannot be ignored, critics said.
Read below what critics have said about Sandeep-starrer "Veerappan."
Bollywood Hungama critic said: "VEERAPPAN has violence that may seem a bit over the top for a certain segment of audience. With its unconventional and extremely well-narrated story line and Ram Gopal Varma's trademark filmmaking skills VEERAPPAN will most likely be patronized by a niche segment of the audience."
Meena Iyer of the Times of India said: "In all fairness, Sandeep brings Veerappan alive and the National Award winner Usha as Muthulakshmi is convincing. Though not in top form, RGV does redeem himself to some degree."
Asira Tarannum of Deccan Chronicle said: "RGV has told it taut, specially in the second half that is all about Operation Killing Veerappan. Sandeep's tranformation as Veerappan is commendable -- from his looks to his dialect. Here's an actor waiting to be explored. Usha too plays it easy. "

Salman Khan's 'Sultan' to cross Rs. 300 crore in box office collections, says public poll

Salman Khan's "Sultan" will be released on Eid this year, but speculations regarding the movie's box office collections have already started. A Twitter poll conducted by trade analyst Taran Adarsh asking public if "Sultan" will cross Rs. 300 crore box office collections in India has had a majority of them voting in the affirmative.
Only two Bollywood movies have till date crossed the Rs. 300-crore mark in the domestic market — Aamir Khan's "PK" and more recently Salman's "Bajrangi Bhaijaan." The online poll was conducted as: "Aamir's #PK and Salman's #BajrangiBhaijaan crossed Rs 300 cr [India biz]... Will #Sultan cross Rs 300 cr too? [sic]"
Around 61 percent of the voters have opined that "Sultan" would do business of more than Rs. 300 crore in India, while 23 percent of the voters are doubtful, and 12 percent said there was 50-50 chance, while the remaining four percent opted for "Can't say." The total number of votes was 14,533. "PK" had had lifetime earnings of Rs. 340.8 crore and "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" had earned Rs. 320.34 crore at the Indian box office, according toBollywood Hungama.
Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and produced by Yash Raj Films, "Sultan" is undoubtedly one of the most awaited movies of 2016. The film features Salman along with Anushka Sharma. There has always been high buzz around "Sultan," and it doubled after the trailer of the film was released recently.

The trailer of Riteish Deshmukh's film "Banjo" will reportedly be released with "Housefull 3," which is scheduled to hit the screens on June 3. Riteish and Nargis Fakhri, who are also part of "Housefull 3," will be featured in "Banjo."
According to a source, the makers of "Banjo" are planning to attach the trailer to Sajid-Farhad's film, but nothing has been confirmed yet, Bollywood Life reported. Riteish and Nargis' looks from "Banjo" have already been released. Narigis will be seen as a DJ, while Riteish will play a rockstar. Also, Abhishek Bachchan will reportedly lend his voice to the film.
On the other hand, Riteish and Nargis will share screen space with Akshay Kumar, Abhishek, Lisa Haydon and Jacqueline Fernandez in "Housefull 3." The team of the comedy flick is currently busy promoting their movie on reality shows and events.
After promoting on "The Kapil Sharma Show," the star cast of the film appeared on "Comedy Nights Bachao" to promote their film. But during the shoot of "Comedy Nights Bachao," Akshay lost his cool and pushed stand-up comedian Siddharth Jadhav hard after he took inappropriate digs at "Housefull 3" leading ladies Lisa Haydon and Jacqueline Fernandez.
The show started off well but soon the jokes became too offensive to take. Akshay and Riteish seemed uncomfortable when comedian Siddharth addressed Lisa as a "black African" and as someone who looks like a Kangaroo from Australia.
Meanwhile, fans are eagerly waiting for the third instalment of the franchise to hit the screens, considering the success of "Housefull" and "Housefull 2." The first two instalments of the trilogy were directed by Sajid Khan, but "Housefull 3" has been directed by Sajid-Farhad Samji. Only Akshay, Boman and Riteish have appeared in all three parts, and Jacqueline was in the second instalment of the series.

'Diya Aur Baati Hum:' Sandhya to get pregnant?

While "Diya Aur Baati Hum" is currently revolving around supernatural beliefs, the upcoming track will bring happiness to the Rathi family. According to reports, Sandhya Rathi (Deepika Singh) will be seen getting pregnant once again in the upcoming episodes.
However, she and Sooraj (Anas Rashid) will find it uncomfortable to announce the pregnancy to Bhabo, India Forums reported. Bhabo, on the other hand, will be seen teasing Dhaisa that she is pregnant, which will make it further difficult for Sandhya and Sooraj to reveal the news. Both Sandhya and Sooraj will also be seen in dilemma as to who will announce the news to Bhabo.
The piece of news will surely excite the viewers as the track will bring freshness to the storyline. Last time, when Sandhya's twins Ved an Vansh were born, viewers were treated with exciting twists and turns revolving around the babies.
Meanwhile, Deepika recently took some time off from her hectic schedule to celebrate her wedding anniversary with husband Rohit Raj Goyal. The much-in-love couple flew down to Phuket, Thailand, and the actress had also shared some pictures of the trip on her Instagram page.
In other news, Kanika Maheshwari, who plays the role of Meenakshi bhabhi, was reportedly mulling over quitting the show. There were reports that Kanika, who has been associated with the show for five years now, wanted to take up other work and explore different opportunities. However, the actress is unable to do so because of the exclusive contract she had signed with the channel. Apparently, the actress was in talks with the production house and might take the exit route if the exclusivity clause was not nullified.
